DFG funds project for efficient machining of high-strength austenitic CrMn steels

Cooperation between materials technology and machining

Together with the Chair of Materials Technology at the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) headed by Prof. Sebastian Weber, the ISF is researching the improvement of the machinability of steels with a high content of interstitially bound carbon and nitrogen in the project "Materials and production engineering approaches for the efficient machining of high-strength austenitic CrMn steels".

In addition to targeted heat treatment before machining to improve chip breaking and after machining to restore the material's performance properties, the project focuses on the technological design of the tool microgeometry and the analysis of innovative cooling lubricant concepts. ISF and LWT are looking forward to working together and would like to thank the German Research Foundation (DFG) for funding the project.
